  • Something I've recently learned ...

I've learned there are two things you can't give someone who's not willing to take them ... freedom and responsibility. I also think everyone has a natural tendency to take one, and difficulty taking the other.

So, if you're a responsibility-taker, try to take a little freedom today! And if you're a freedom-taker, get off your sorry lazy ass and get something done for a change. :)

  • My brush with fame ...

Okay .. the famous person I saw this month was .... drumroll ...

Ta-da! Oscar Nunez (Oscar from The Office) came to speak to an acting class at the school where I work. I did get a chance to meet him, and I took this photo, but I didn't take any photos of myself with him. What do you take me for, some kind of starstruck midwesterner? :)

Sorry it took me so long to get that posted after my "teaser." If it's any consolation, I still haven't posted it to the school's web site ... which I get paid to do ...

  • Yes, it's a resolution ....

I'm going to start blogging again. Really. I realized over the holiday I was feeling pretty disconnected from the fam and friends, and a few even said they missed my posts, so I'm back. (So comment, already.)

Had a pretty good holiday break. We traveled to see both the hub's family and mine, went to my niece's wedding, and still had a few days back at "home" to rest up before returning to work.

Back in LA, we did the Rose Parade's post-parade walkaround — a chance to see the floats up close. They really are pretty amazing. Maybe I'll post some pics later. (Wouldn't want to jump back in to blogging too whole-heartedly and burn myself out, right?)

We also went to see "Gran Torino" with some friends. We mostly went to be social, but it turned out to be a pretty good movie. (A good thing, since the theater was so crowded that we didn't sit with the couple we went with.) Of course, since it was LA, there were lots of "credit watchers" in the audience — people who will stay in their seats after the movie until the last prop boy has had his on-screen props. That's still funny to me. I think people do it to prove they know somebody in "the business" and really respect it. Whatever, man. (Although when I mentioned this to the hub, he reminded me that we met the art director for the "Escape to Witch Mountain" remake the other day, and would likely join the credit-watchers if we went to see his film. Okay, you got me.)

  • Reasons I Need A Trip To OKC This Weekend...

    1. Missed too many early-August birthday extravaganzas with my friends.
    2. A good friend is moving to Japan and needs a "yes, you can move away with your hubby and live to tell" pep talk.
    3. I voluntarily ate sushi AND organic green tea today. (Which means I'm WAY too far from a Sonic.)
    4. The earth here is not stable. (Yes, I felt it. no, I wasn't under my desk — I was too confused.)
    5. I can't imagine spending a weekend without my husband. (Sweet, but probably not healthy)
